They Shut Down My Oldest Credit Card! AGH

TL;DR: Current FICO models usually take your credit card account ages into account. Don’t let them get shut down. Despite knowing about this effect, I (accidentally) let my oldest credit card account get shut down. I had gotten my first credit card in 2014, and recently after 2 years of having no expenses on it, the bank decided to close it. I had heard this sometimes happens – banks will shut down your credit card after 1-5 years of not seeing any significant purchases made. They claimed they sent me notices warning about this, but they sent physical mail to an address I had prior to moving to where I…

Verizon: Another Card on the Efficient Frontier

TL;DR: It gets 4% back on groceries. That’s pretty much all. It’s a no annual-fee card, and you’d think it gives some Verizon-related perks but it doesn’t really. It claims to give an extra $10/month boost on Verizon phone plans, but it doesn’t stack with the $10 you’d already get with auto-pay. It has a spot in the most efficient collection of no-annual fee credit cards (no other has the cash-back for groceries), but it’s definitely not recommended as a starter card. Check out the details here. Happy Verizon’ing, TheJKW

    Wait, it’s actually 5.25% back!

TL;DR: Previously we discussed the new Bank of America credit card that gave 3% back on certain categories. However, with Preferred Rewards you could boost that to 5.25% back! With Bank of America’s Preferred Rewards, you can get between a 25%-75% boost on credit card rewards (and some other benefits). This is calculated based on how much you’re holding in varying Bank of America accounts, with the top tier requiring $100k. The savings/checkings accounts for the most part are boring (which is why I hadn’t mentioned this benefit before), but you can use the Merrill edge investing accounts to keep that capital working! 8% Cashback?! Somebody Slap Me!

TL;DR: Binance has come out with a credit card that gives up to 8% cash back. Binance is a cryptocurrency exchange that has blown up with the cryptocurrency rage in recent years. They’ve even more recently come out with a credit card that allows you to pay for your purchases with cryptocurrencies, superficially offers up to 8% cash back on purchases. However, don’t get too excited yet. If you get the card, you’re placed into a “tier” where you can get between 1% and 8% on your purchases. Your tier is completely based on how many “Binance Coins” (or BNB, which is Binance’s cryptocurrency) you own. to get tier 7…

Venmo’s New Card that Belongs in Your Wallet!

TL;DR: Venmo just came out with a new credit card gives up to 3% back! This new credit card is much like HMBradley’s, where they give 3% back on your top spending category, 2% on your next one, and 1% on the rest. At this current time, it seems like all spending is categorized into these categories when evaluated for rewards: Transportation Travel Grocery Entertainment Dining and Nightlife Bills and Utilities Health and Beauty Gas Other This card is rather new so we’ll keep tabs on how users like it and on any new coming changes. For now, it’s not the first card I would get, but any card that…

    Visa Signature Benefits

TL;DR: Your credit card may have more perks than you thought! When we compare credit cards, we focus on the perks/benefits from the card itself, and whether the card is a Visa/Mastercard/Amex/Discover/etc… card is almost an afterthought. However there’s a lot more to those payment networks behind the cards, and I’m just going to quickly highlight Visa. They have things like $5 off $50 orders on Target, auto rental collision damage waivers, potential price/purchase protection, and so on. I’d recommend spending some time and reading up on it.
