Getting 5% Back with Credit Cards
TL;DR: Maximize on 5% back opportunities with the Discover, Chase, and US Bank cards.
In the Starter Guide, we talked about getting 5% back on rotating categories with the Discover card. However, there are many similar cards with 5% categories. You can get them all to maximize your opportunities!
As mentioned before, this gives 5% back on rotating categories each calendar quarter. You’ll see categories such as restaurants, Amazon, Target, gas and groceries, etc. You’ll also get double the cash back your first year (i.e. 10% on those categories) as well as $20 every year if you’re a student.
2 The Chase Freedom Credit Card
This is a very similar program to the Discover card, where it has 5% cash back on similar categories. The categories also rotate each calendar quarter. You’ll also get $150 back if you spend $500 in your first three months.
3 The US Bank Cash+ Credit Card
With the US Bank Cash+ credit card, you get to choose two categories to consistently get 5% cash back in. You’ll see categories such as fast food, home utilities, electronics stores, cell phone providers, etc.
