Get Paid to Travel
TL;DR: Airmule pays travelers for free, unused checked luggage allowances.
Ever notice how airlines ask in advance how much of your checked luggage allowance you will use on an international flight? They sell unused slots to other companies such as FedEx and UPS and make a bunch of money on it.
Airmule changes that dynamic by allowing you to sell your own checked luggage allowance by matching your free slots with courier companies who need to ship packages. The standard rate is about $100-$150 per package per leg of your trip. Not bad!
All you do is set up an account and list your upcoming flights. Airmule will match you with packages, and all you have to do is pick-up/drop-off those packages at your departure/arrival airport during your trip.
To mitigate concerns about the process, Airmule has a process of only accepting TSA-approved courier companies, and manually inspecting all packages shipped. They also assume 100% responsibility on all items in the packages and make any customs taxes 100% refundable.
Currently it seems like supported trips are only major airports between US and China/India/Thailand/Korea, but they do list goals of expanding the system to European countries as well.
