Going Further With More Passive Rewards

TL;DR: Generate Extra Passive Income With These Programs: Drop,SPENT,Uber Visa Rewards,Groupon Plus,Panel App,S’more

There are tons of articles online about passive income apps, or cash back apps, or etc… but there are usually a couple common problems with these.

  1. They’re not completely passive. You have to upload receipts, or work through surveys, or download apps and games, or etc… and takes more time than it is worth.
  2. They drain your battery.
  3. They collect way too much private information
  4. The app keeps crashing, or you can’t sign in, or you have trouble redeeming rewards. Avoid this by avoiding apps with bad ratings

However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some good ones out there. Here are a few that I found to pass all of those filters.

App #1: Drop

This app is completely passive. After you download the app, create an account* and link a credit card (I’ve linked my Citi Double Cash), you’ll be asked to choose 5 brands where you’ll collect cash back. Choose brands that you’ll use most often, as you won’t be able to change this! For example, I chose Uber, Lyft, Seamless, Starbucks, and Target. In general, you’ll automatically collect points that are worth roughly 1% back, and you can redeem these points for gift cards to Amazon, Target, Starbucks, etc…

This all happens in the background, and you just need to check back once in a while to collect your rewards. There are also other features where you can earn more points by shopping through the links in the app. I’m too lazy to check the app all the time and click so… this is less appealing to me.

App #2: SPENT

This app is almost exactly like Drop, but you can double up! Download the app, create an account, link a credit card. Make sure that in the “my offers” section of the app, you’ve activated all the cash back options! There are some great brands here like Uber, Netflix, Walgreens, etc…

App #3: Uber Visa Rewards

Okay, not exactly an app. But free passive cash back nonetheless! In your Uber app, go to settings, scroll down to Visa Local Offers, and opt in. You’ll find yourself getting around 5% back in Uber credits when you use any Visa card connected to your Uber app at participating restaurants.

App #4: Groupon Plus

More cash back for food! Enroll in Groupon Plus and claim deals for 5-40% cash back at local restaurants when using your linked card (I use my Uber Credit Card). This is the best form of cash back: refunds right to your linked credit cards. The downside is that this isn’t completely passive: you have to go on Groupon to claim the deals first. I’d suggest picking a couple of your favorite restaurants and collect some cash back from that. However, if you want to go all the way, it’s faster on the mobile app to go and click through all the deals.

App #5: Panel App

This app collects information on your location and gives you rewards in return. It only results in about $15/year, but is completely passive income, so why not?

App #6: S’More

This is one of those lock screen apps: You get an ad when you open your phone, and get paid (even if you don’t interact with the ad). I like this one because I’ve found it to be the least glitchy and least annoying. You’ll earn around $40/year using this. You can take surveys and watch videos to earn more but… ain’t nobody got time for that. I just use this for the passive income.
