Saving On Your Phone Bill
TL;DR: Mint Mobile is a low cost, high-quality option to keep your phone bill low, with plans starting $15/month.
I know, sounds like an ad. But I swear, I’m not getting paid to say any of this.
Phone bills end up being a big annual cost if you’re paying $50+/month, or $600+/year. Imagine making most of that back and spending it on yourself.
I started out with Boost Mobile and had a plan that was $30/month, which wasn’t so bad a cost. Without a family plan but also wanting a decent unlimited talk+text plan and some data, I thought that was about the best I could do. So I stuck with their horrible customer service for a while.
But Mint Mobile came along and changed the game. They operate on T-Mobile towers, which for me was an upgrade of Boost Mobile’s use of Sprint towers. They have plans starting at $15/month with unlimited talk+text, and 3Gb of 4G LTE data per month. If you’re like most people with $50+/month plans, using Mint translates to about $200-$300/year in savings. And if you’re anything like me, I only use about 1Gb of data/month, so this plan was plenty.
Great, now what are the disadvantages? Two main ones: you must bring your own unlocked phone, and you must commit to 3, 6, or 12 month plans and pay the whole cost up front.
That’s it! Check out how Mint’s coverage is in your zip code.
Happy Mint’ing!
